INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A PhD RESEARCH SURVEY

Project Title: The Diffusion and Value of International Green Data Center Standards

You are invited to participate in this survey as you have been identified as a senior data center executive, with extensive knowledge of operation and management of data centers.

The aim of this research is to investigate the diffusion and value of Green data center standards. The study focuses on the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) set of best practices for Green data centers, which is referred to as “Recommendations ITU-T L.1300” (Best practices for green data centers). ITU is one of the key international organizations that has developed best practices for Green data centers.

The “ITU-T L.1300” describes best practices aimed at reducing the negative impact of data centers on the climate. It covers construction (planning), operation and management of a data center’s  IT products and services, powering, cooling, monitoring, network design, building, cloud data center and other data center equipment. In total, it contains 189 best practice recommendations. You can access the full set of ITU-T L.1300 best practices via ITU-T L.1300 Best practices for Green Data Centers .

The scope of my project is on existing data centers. Hence, fifteen clauses from the five components of data center mentioned in the ITU-T L.1300 are considered for this research. A list of selected areas and clauses covering 90 best practices are accessible via List of the topics related to selected areas and clauses .

Several variables that can potentially affect the diffusion of Green data center standards as well as the benefits of adopting these standards have been identified. A survey questionnaire has been prepared and is now being disseminated.

The Participant Information Sheet, approved by RMIT's ethics committee, provides more information about the project and its conduct and you can access it via Main Participant Information Sheet . Please read it before deciding to take part in the research. Please bear in mind that by submitting the online form you are confirming that you have consented to participate in the survey and you have fully understood the questions in the survey.
